Mission Statement
The South East Art Society encourages the practice of the visual arts and their promotion.
It fosters the development of practicing artists and their links with the wider community.
Patron
Our current patron is Tony Pasin MP and he has been a supporter of the art society for ?? years.
During that time he has generously sponsored a prize in the annual Open Art Awards.
Membership
South East Art Society members are as varied as the community they represent, from school students to retirees and everything in between. Artists demonstrate a wide range of skills a cross all fields of the visual arts, from traditional landscapes worked in oils to Digital prints and animations.
Social
A small group of members meet regularly on Wednesdays at the Old Stables, from 10am to 2pm, to work on current pieces and just for a general opportunity to catch up and socialise. Everyone is welcome, and we encourage you to come along, meet some members and find out more about us.
We also organise occasional family BBQ days, fund raising raffles and bingo nights.
Exhibitions
Every year the South East Art Society holds the Open Art Awards. This is an opportunity for everyone, members and non-members alike, to exhibit their work in a gallery for all to see. Prizes are awarded in all represented categories and exhibitors can also use the opportunity to sell their work.
Members’ Exhibitions are also a feature of the calendar. These have been held in a number of galleries, including The Old Court House, and can be art works on a theme or sometimes free choice. Although a smaller event that the Open Art Awards, prizes are also awarded and members also get to sell their work.
Workshops
Several of our incredible members host workshops and classes on a variety of different techniques such as collage, monoprint, abstraction, still life, portraits, landscapes and more.
If you or someone you know would be interested in running a workshop or class, we’d be very glad to hear from you.
Other Activities
A group of members has also been very active in coordinating Pop Up Shops and holding stalls at markets that take place in town and around the district. Members are welcome to contribute art/craft works for sale and to assist in manning these events.
